Community Land Restoration Project

Restoring native habitat in the heart of Crescent Harbour

Since 2024, Crescent Harbour Association has been working to control invasive Phragmites on our community-owned park property and make room for native plants to thrive.

With a significant reduction in Phragmites, we’re ready for the next phase: restoring native habitat with support from the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority.

Sunday, 18 October 2026
9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
CHA community-owned park property

Help us plant 100 native trees and shrubs and take the next step in restoring this shared space.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is providing the plants at no cost to CHA, along with staff support and planting tools. We’re looking for community volunteers to lend a hand.

Come plant alongside your neighbours and see the progress for yourself!

Learn more about the project

Watch the recording of our 5 October 2026 community Q&A to hear about the restoration work, our upcoming planting day and how you can get involved.

Where we started

Dense stands of invasive Phragmites had taken over parts of the property, making areas difficult to access and encroaching on the tennis courts. Restoring the land began with controlling this growth so native vegetation could have space to recover.

In 2024, CHA received a $2,500 grant through the Invasive Phragmites Control Fund to support the first phase of work. Specialist contractor Restoration Artists treated the Phragmites in October 2024, followed by cutting in January 2025.

Where we are now

After two years of control work, we’ve seen a significant reduction in Phragmites. The project is now moving into its next phase: restoring native habitat.

These views show the change on our community land. Continued monitoring and follow-up control will help protect that progress as we introduce native trees and shrubs.

Working together to restore native habitat

We’re partnering with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) to begin replanting the area with native trees and shrubs.

The October planting will introduce 100 plants, including a mix of native species selected for the site. This is another step towards a more diverse natural habitat on our community land.

Thank you to LSRCA, Restoration Artists, our funding supporters and the neighbours helping make this project possible.
